Lansdowne Roar was founded in 2017 by prominent Irish football journalists Ronan Murphy and Ryan Kelly to promote domestic soccer in Ireland as well as the Republic of Ireland national team and Irish players playing abroad.
Ronan Murphy is Social Producer for Goal, having previously worked as Editor of GreenScene. Before moving to Goal’s new centralised English language edition, Ronan was Deputy Editor of Goal Ireland, where he managed the team of reporters for the League of Ireland. A familiar face at Republic of Ireland matches, he is a Carlow native currently living in Wexford. Having grown up supporting Kilkenny City and then Kildare County, Ronan is reluctant to weigh in behind Wexford FC just in case the same fate awaits them!
Ryan Kelly currently works as a writer and editor for Goal, after previously leading the website’s Ireland edition as Chief Editor. A heady mix of Donegal whimsy and Derry grit, Kelly’s education in the beautiful game has been defined by liminality and began in earnest as he was enthralled by the magic of Liam Coyle and Paddy McCourt at Brandywell during his formative years. While he doesn’t like to brag about it, Kelly is actually an all-Ireland champion (Galway mini-World Cup 2005.)
Brian Strahan is a freelance writer from Dublin. His love of Irish football comes from growing up as a regular at Lansdowne Road, starting in April 1989 when Michel’s own goal and Ireland’s 1-0 defeat of Spain, caught his imagination and hooked him for life. A Shelbourne fan and a dreamer.
