Paul Cook guided Sligo Rovers to the 2011 FAI Cup, just six months after Pep Guardiola lifted the Champions League. Less than years on, Cook met Guardiola in the FA Cup, and knocked his Manchester City side out of the competition.
Guardiola was the Barcelona boss in 2011, winning a second European Cup as the club’s manager. Cook’s 2011 FAI Cup win was his second-in-a-row with Sligo before he left for Accrington Stanley.
On Monday, Cook’s Wigan Athletic recorded a shock win over Guardiola’s Premier League leaders, with Will Grigg’s goal proving the difference between the two sides.
