New Preston North End manager Alex Neil is looking forward to working with new signings Sean Maguire and Kevin O’Connor, who are set to join the club from Cork City.
The signing of Maguire and O’Connor occurred prior to Neil’s appointment as boss, during the tenure of Simon Grayson, but the Scottish coach has acknowledged that the duo are “good young players” with “the best part of their careers ahead.”
“In terms of players coming into a club, generally it’s not just one person’s decision so it’s the club that signed them not necessarily Simon (Grayson). Obviously Simon would have played a big part in that but the club wanted these players,” Neil said in an interview with Newstalk.
“The fact is they’re good young players. They’ve got a lot of potential and the best part of their careers are ahead of them. So, as a coach coming into that – I don’t think you can really ask for anymore.
“They are young, they’re impressionable and you can teach them everything you know and get hopefully the best out of them.”
Maguire and O’Connor will officially join Preston at the end of July. Before leaving Turner’s Cross, though, the pair will look to help the club into the Europa League third qualifying round, with the second leg of the second qualifying round against AEK Larnaca to come on Thursday.
