Cork City have started the 2017 season in style, winning all eight of their Premier Division fixtures and they currently sit eight points clear of their bitter rivals and reigning champions Dundalk.
John Caulfield’s side have scored 21 goals so far and Sean Maguire has supplied most of them, finding the net eight times in as many games as he carries his 2016 form into the new term.
That kind of consistency has seen the 22-year-old scoop his first ever SWAI/Airtricity Player of the Month award, as well as sending the rumour-mill into overdrive with speculation intensifying that the former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international could soon be on his way out of Turner’s Cross.
“Whenever you’re playing well in this league there is always going to be rumours,” Maguire said when receiving the March accolade.
“It’s flattering but there’s only one thing I’m concentrating on and that’s Cork City and trying to win the league for them.
“I don’t think everyone has seen the best of this team or even myself yet. I still feel like I can improve.”
It seems that Cork fans can rest easy, for now at least!
