Despite a recent comedic makeover, which included enlisting novelist Roddy Doyle to ghostwrite his memoir, Roy Keane is not known for his cheery demeanour, particularly when it comes to pre-match press conferences.
So, when the former Manchester United captain broke into a massive grin on Tuesday ahead of the Republic of Ireland’s World Cup qualifier against Wales, it was newsworthy stuff.
Keane was taken a little aback by a question from a young girl taking part in the Soccer Sisters programme, asking if he and Martin O’Neill were best friends since he’d been “hanging around with him for a long time”.
They’re not best friends, but Keane’s reaction was brilliant.

The Cork man also had some sterling advice for the young girls as they pursue a career in the game.
