Each year, Dundalk lose one or two of their star players and each year someone steps up to the plate.
Having lost Patrick Hoban in 2014 and Richie Towell in 2015, 2016 saw Daryl Horgan and Andy Boyle depart Louth for English shores, but the Irish champions have a new talisman in town.
Step forward Patrick McEleney.
The Derry native has been simply outstanding for Stephen Kenny’s side in 2017 and, last Friday against St Patrick’s Athletic, he showed precisely why he has been touted as one of the most technically gifted players in Ireland for many years now.
McEleney scored two goals for the Lilywhites, but his first was a beauty to behold as he breezed past four players before cheekily chipping the ball into the back of the net, cool as you like.

The former Derry City man now has four goals in five league appearances, as well as a few key assists.
