Shiels: McDermott could miss five Derry matches

Derry City manager Kenny Shiels has revealed that full-back Conor McDermott could miss as many as five games for the club due to a quad injury.

Derry face Shamrock Rovers on Friday, March 11 before taking on Dundalk the following Monday, with McDermott definitely ruled out for those matches.

However, such is the severity of the Northern Ireland Under-21 international’s injury, Shiels is concerned that he may be sidelined for much longer.

“Conor will miss the Shamrock Rovers and Dundalk games and could possibly be out for a few weeks,” Shiels told the Derry Journal.

“It’s a big blow and as he also missed a bit of pre-season, he’s bitterly disappointed.

“We have five games in the space of 15 days and while I’m not a physio there’s a chance he may miss all of those matches.”
