Bohemians striker Ismahil Akinade has been ruled out for at least two months as he needs to get his spleen removed.
Bohs manager Keith Long confirmed the extent of Akinade’s injury, as is worried that he could be without the 23-year-old for even longer than the initial two months.
“Unfortunately we’re looking at a couple of months and even that could be ambitious,” Long told the Irish Mirror.
“Izzy will go in (today) to have his spleen removed and he’ll be in hospital for a few days, probably until Saturday.
“It’s open surgery so we’ll have to see how invasive it is but, naturally, he’s going to be very sore and he’ll take his time getting back.
“It’s very tough on Izzy and a really big blow for the club. Even last Friday, I think it gave Derry a lift when they saw he wasn’t playing.
“We’re a better team with him in the side – I don’t think anyone can argue with that. When he’s not playing, we have to move people around to accommodate it.”
