Republic of Ireland youth international Glen McAuley’s 17th birthday was certainly one to remember as he signed a professional deal with Premier League giants Liverpool.
The Shamrock Rovers-supporting Dublin native, who joined the Reds’ academy from St Joseph’s Boys last summer, was handed pro terms after a season in which he has showcased his keen eye for goal.

Liverpool academy coach Neil Critchley describes McAuley as ‘an old fashioned centre forward’ and the Dublin native himself says that he looks up to strikers such as Diego Costa and Robbie Keane.
It will be interesting to see how McAuley fares in the next couple of years at Melwood, but if the progress made by Ireland Under-19 captain Conor Masterson is anything to go by, Irish fans can retain some optimism.
